During the end of the semester of my Design I course, the final assignment was to create four customized analog playing cards. Since playing cards included royal figures such as a king, a queen, and a jack, I considered a humorous idea of how cats are regarded as worshipped regal creatures by today’s modern society, which is the reason why I decided to include some of my cats to be portrayed as monarchal figures for the tops of cards. The three cats I included were Tuco, Joy and Oliver—Tuco became the king of the cards because of his humble disposition, Joy is portrayed as the queen because of her graceful personality and Oliver is depicted as the Jack because of his curious temperament. I painted the three cats with the use of acrylic paint while the composition for the inner details of these cards included flowers or letters from old calendars, the abstract photographs I created in one of my photography courses and the attachment of small textile fibers.
