While creating this project, I remembered the miniature auger seashells in which would wash up at Pensacola Beach in Florida. An auger has a curled tip at the end as well as rounded, intricate patterns in which you could feel with your fingers, so I was wondering about experimenting with creating an immense space full of the bottoms of auger seashells as well as explore with an analogous color scheme for these pointed structures. After darkening the background with ink, I began imagining that this abstract image could be a hidden cavern which could be discovered underground, and these curled shapes could be incredibly immense that individuals could climb them with ropes. While viewers are observing The Cavern of Colossal Augers, I do wonder how they would perceive this image as well as what they imagine what these structures to be besides the bottoms of auger seashells.
