The painting of Leaping into the Ocean was a color experimentation assignment for my painting workshop course in the Spring Semester of 2025—this assignment was meant to be an examination of how color can influence the mood of a painting. For this assignment, I was wondering about how skilled acrobats would feel if they performed a backflip into the ocean because I could only imagine the dare and invigoration they would experience. For this assignment, I decided to paint a scene of an acrobatic woman performing a daring flip into the ocean and try to have the viewers observe the stunt from her experience, which is why when I present this image, I usually have it be upside down for viewers to imagine the sensation of their body turning. Lastly, since I wanted to capture the emotion of excitement, I decided to use bright radiant hues of red, yellow, blue and violet hues to try and convey a sense of adrenaline and thrill.
