Frolicsome Toys

Project type

Oil on Canvas

Date

2023

Location

Imperial, MO

During my Painting I course at Jefferson College, my professor requested all his students to bring items of a designated color to class for the preparations of still lives and I was assigned to bring orange materials to class. For the next class session, I brought orange scallop seashells, an orange candle and an orange headband
while my classmates brought a red toy truck, a toy lilac-colored botanical flower, and a miniature yellow crocheted duckling plush. On the day in which everyone was preparing their still life settings, my classmates and I positioned the toy truck at a ¾ view, the flower on the right, the duckling at the top of the truck, and a few seashells in the foreground while a blue wine bottle and faux green Ivy leaves were placed in the background to give more color variations. After the critique of the paintings of the still lives my classmates and I developed, I feel rather pleased that I have something which captures the diverting still life we created together and I believe it hides a playful setting, which is why I named my painting of the still life Frolicsome Toys.
